The power-set is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the nuance will go over a typical fan's head. There's also Goku's omnipotent aspects, which is firmly rooted in quantum field theory. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this exponentially important character, to realize that he's not just a character in a comic book, but that he is beyond that. As a consequence people who dislike Goku are truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the complexities associated with his Final Crisis story, which in itself is a cryptic reference to Erwin Schrödinger's Many Worlds Interpretation.
I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Grant Morrison's genius wit unfolds itself within the pages of not only the comics, but in their very minds. What fools.. how I pity them.

Goku was based on sun wokong from journey to the west and jackie chan and Bruce lee.
Goku was introduced as a eccentric and strong monkey tailed boy with a skill for martial arts. He meets bulma and joins her on a journey to find the 7 wish granting mystical Dragonballs. Along the way he makes new friends, foes, rivals saves the world and also becomes the strongest warrior on earth.
Later as the series goes on a sequel series, Dragonball Z is introduced. In this it's revealed that Goku is a (space monkey alien?) Sayian warrior from Planet Vegeta. He soon faces galactic and universal level threats in his quest to become stronger.
He overcomes all of them by getting stronger by training in afterlife, space, gravity, time chamber and even another planets! And also by learning new abilities!
As the series progresses he also unlocks new transformations like super sayian 1, 2 , 3 a bunch of transformations where he gain blonde spiky hair after screaming for a minute or 2.

(In super continuation) He also gets divine transformation like super sayian god and super sayian blue which are just red hair dye of his base and blue hair dye of his super sayian form.
