The American equivalent of a UK boy racer's car; usually an import sedan (Civics and Corollas are usually the weapon of choice, but they are not by any means the only cars used) with exceptionally gaudy and tasteless external modifications while not having anything that actually increases performance. Funnily enough, many of the mods actually DECREASE performance by way of being designed for cars actually capable of pulling off what the average ricer can only dream of. Expect cheap plastic rims, underlighting, artificial lowering by way of cut springs, a plastic bumper that shatters the minute the car nears any sort of imperfection in the road, a plastic spoiler that actually increases wind resistance, an incredibly loud and garish bodykit, a gargantuan fucking exhaust setup that can be heard from multiple blocks away, a sound system that costs more than the car itself, and stickers for high-end performance gear that the driver of said car doesn't even own.

"Hey, did you see Tony trying and failing to pick up some random chicks in the Price Chopper parking lot?"

Ricer

An overused slur often used in completly wrong context. Originally a ricer was an aftermarket modified east-asian import with no performance modifacations to make the car look faster than what it actually was. This then moved onto a connotation associated with drivers of said cars being young, obnoxious, going for the "Fast & the furious look" and generally just in denial of the limitations of their car.

In recent years 'Ricer' is simply used to bash any asian vehicle, even stock and performance modified variants, usually by domestic & muscle car fan boys who suffer from the latter of the ricer connotation when their rides get outperformed by stock import.

*Looking at the performance figures of a GTR*

Import hater: 'How the hell is that ricer able to reach 0-60 in under 4 seconds?'

Myself: 'Its a stock car you fuckwit'

southern ricer

A southern ricer is a person who owns a pickup truck on lifted suspension and rediculous rims (usually Fuel rims). This person also has a large, loud, and most of the time cheap exhaust.

That F-150 driver is definitely a southern ricer, just listen to his exhaust!

1. A kind of car that has nothing but comsmetic modifications. Most are Japanese cars, but some range from domestic to German cars. Most commonly Honda Civics and Mitsubishi Eclipses.


2. A person who buys a domestic or import car and adds nothing but cosmetic parts. Most commonly white, male, and from the surburbs.

Common and usually derogatory term used as a blanket explanation for the complex and popular resurgence of automotive culture among young adults, particular in terms of small-displacement Japanese
import modified vehicles.

Variances within the scene - with some cars barely modified, others heavily
massaged to generate impressive power, many optimized for handling, others still intended entirely for show/stereo competitions - have resulted in a great deal of criticism and confusion.

A compounding factor, historically, has been the reluctance of Japanese makers to export their most impressive hardware to North American markets. This trend is showing signs of reversing.

Those ricers. Don't they realize that internal combustion engineering progress topped out with the pushrod?
