The Maleficent DVD Effect

The Maleficent DVD effect is a term used to describe the immense fear of a fictional character that also might've resided from a passion for the character. This fear could reside in nightmares, resurfacing of old fears from your childhood, etc. This term stems from my huge fear of Maleficent as a kid, and how when I woke up early in the morning, went to the living room, and would see the cover for the Maleficent movie DVD, I'd be scared out of my mind. It caused me to hide under blankets on the floor because I thought I saw her shadow and cast away anything that had Maleficent on it. The thing was, I was the one who wanted the DVD because we saw a bit of it at a drive-in, and I didn't get to see the full movie, so I ultimately became terrified of something I was deeply interested in.
Someone: "Dude... I started hyperfixating on Carrie like a month ago, and now, at the slightest mention of Carrie, I get nightmares, and my fear of the dark comes back. My dad had to take away the book and tell me to stop watching stuff about Carrie because of how scared I'd get."
Someone Else: "Yeah, sounds like the Maleficent DVD effect man."
Someone: "Huh?"
Someone Else: "Basically a fear of a specific fictional character that you like."
Someone: "Oh."
