Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada are being accused of pulling a "Back Door Harris." Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stepped down before a federal election, allowing his party to appoint a new Prime Minister in 2025. Carney then called a snap election one month after his appointment, hoping to win the election without posting his platform with enough time for public scrutiny. This move has drawn parallels to Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party in the U.S. during the 2024 election. The Democratic Party waited until right before the election to pressure U.S. President Joe Biden to resign for health reasons and replace him with Harris, who did not present her platform until just before the election. Many suspect this maneuver contributed to Harris’s loss.
