Phosphorylation is the addition of a phosphate (PO4) group to a protein or other organic molecule. The addition of phosphate groups in proteins changes the way they wiggle and so changes what a protein does.
In a cellular signaling pathways, a protein A phosphorylates protein B, and B phosphorylates C.

Get the phosphorescent mug.N. A lipid, or fat, composed of glycerol joined to two fatty acids and a phosphate group. The hydrocarbon tails are non-polar, or hydrophobic, while the remainder of the molecule is hydrophilic, or water loving. They tend to form a bi-layer, a structure that resembles a sandwich, with the hydrophilic heads facing outwards, and the hydrophobic tails facing each other
