When you are irrationally emotional and don't know whether to laugh or cry. Someone says something funny and you proceed to do both.

A laugh produced after stating a joke in order to drown out everyone's silence when said joke was lame. It's often used as a preemptive strategy to appear funnier than one actually is.
Alen proceeded to tell us a pun that made no sense and followed it up with the Alen Laugh. No one else was laughing.

Much like a golf clap in idea, but used differently: To offer a short, polite chuckle to someone as an acknowledgement that they said something THEY think is amusing, but it really isn't. To help someone not feel uncomfortable or embarrassed by politely laughing at their stupid joke.
"OMG, that guy I'm dating said that stupid duck-under-one-arm joke lastnight in front my friends! I had to give him the golf laugh just so he didn't look like a complete idiot!"
