The purpose of this mass consumption is to induce an extreme negative reaction (often including a non-tactical chunder) thereby reminding oneself to avoid this vice in the short to medium term. John made a list of 43 bands then binge downloaded all of their songs. Afterwards he got rid of his torrents and ran spyware scans so his computer wouldn't crash.
