When a character suffers a catastrophic glow-down — not just a visual downgrade, but a full-on aesthetic and narrative collapse. Once majestic, cool, or powerful, they’re redesigned into a weird, goofy, or straight-up embarrassing version of themselves.
“They Neptuned him. Dude used to look like a legend.”
“This reboot is suffering from major King Neptune Effect.”
“Her redesign has big Neptune Energy… in the bad way.”
“From silver fox to gas station cryptid — that’s the King Neptune pipeline.”
Variations:
Neptuned (verb) – “They Neptuned my boy!”
Neptune Energy (noun) – “His current look is giving Neptune Energy, and not in a good way.”
King Neptune Syndrome (rare alt form) – “It’s a classic case of King Neptune Syndrome: dev god to gym teacher.”

Person 1: "Dave is acting strange. He's been really abusive recently."
Person 2: "It's just the Jahseh effect. He's a big fan of X."

When you post something on Twitter and someone quotes you, you reply with something that makes you look even stupider than what the original post said.
Zak quoted Andres on why he thinks Chrollo is mid, so Andres replied and made himself even more of an embarrassment. Andres experienced The Quote Effect.

When permission to be racist is granted to the public by somebody famous who says some racist shit (often claiming later it was a “joke - wink wink”) and then hate crimes/hate speech go up against the same ethnic group that was targeted by that famous person. Especially pronounced when other public figures publicly agree with the racist remarks or refuse to publicly criticize them. A statistically significant effect that’s been documented as beginning during Trump’s presidential campaign, and continuing through his presidency and post presidency.
“Wow, the membership in white supremacist groups and far right hate groups went up like 400% between 2015 and 2020”
“Yup, that’s the Trump effect. He’s their best recruiter. By all means, let’s elect him again in 2024!”

1. (noun) The increase in racially-motivated bullying of minority students in U.S. public and private schools immediately following the election of Donald Trump as President, and attributed to Trump’s own rhetoric aimed at non-white American people, such as banning Muslim people from entering the United States, describing people of Mexican descent as violent criminals, etc. 2. (noun) The phenomenon in U.S. public and private schools of students using the name of President Trump, or one the slogans used by supporters at his rallies, such as “build the wall,” “send them back,” etc., as a taunt directed at minority students, especially at sporting events. 3. (noun) The increase in fear, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, and subsequent worsening of academic performance, observed in minority students following the election of President Donald Trump, often as the result of being a victim of racially-motivated bullying (see definition 1)
But whether or not a student is a member of a targeted group, all students witnessing it in action are vulnerable to the stresses of The Trump Effect.
