The act of accidentally taking a short cut, when a longer route was planned.
By Charles' calculations it would take about 30 minutes to walk to the the local discotheque.

As he had time to kill he decided to take a long cut through a new neighborhood.

12 minutes later Charles saw the unmistakeable lights emanating from the disco and thought to himself 'man I wanted to take it slow, but all the time I was cutting butter'
