Although some people on here take things like emo is "emotional" or whatever it is sad to say that that is the NOW definition of it. im sorry to say that yes "emo" used to be something different in the late 90's but you people need to let go of that! its changed! EVERYTHING CHANGES!!!! GET OVER IT!!!! emo has now come to be "emotional" in fact if you want a pretty good definition of emo you can google video "i must be emo" cuz thats pretty damn close! emo has come to be a bunch of "depressed-cut yourself-im gonna right poems about killing myself but not actually do it" people. btw just to bug you people more! if your gonna cut yourself and talk about killing yourself get it over and done with because people are sick of hearing about it!
emo has become a bunch of sissy little kids whom generally the guys look like girls and girls like guys.

emo is just a cruel label. im considered to be an emo but my mates (yes, emos can have friends) dont care. they accept me for who i am not what other people call me. one of my friends is blonde but we're awesome mates. anyways its better than being a stuck up robot that cant trust their so-called friends. and you can listen to screamo without people thinking your weird. its actually quite relaxing.
barbie- gosh your so emo
me- well at least im not a complete freak
barbie- matter of opinion. go slit your wrists
me- *turning up slipknot song* huh cant hear ya

people who enjoy inflicting pain on themselves. tend to wear tight clothes, cut themselves, hang out in dark corners, and hate their lives. emos wear black
"we all know that inside trono is an emo kid, he hates his life."
"ughh look at that emo girl, she has cuts all over"

poser and a fake: (someone who doesnt act like who they are)
1)emo. the classic, wear black, hair in the face-dyed black, listen to depressing music, cry all the time, no friends, sit in a corner, write depressing lyrics or poetry, and cut themselves.
2)we all say preps are fakes and posers. so if thats the case, there aren't truly any preps. they are something else. so preps mock the people who aren't like them, when in reality they are like them but they just hide it. so in the end, a prep is as much as a poser and a fake as an emo is

1. A boy/girl that pretends to be depressed and say their life sux is emo.
2. A fake poser and snob who dresses up in the latest fashions and pretends to like certain things to fit in is the same thing as emo.

Though it has been defined by many sources - Wikipedia, Andy Greenwald, Andy Radin and such - as a subgenre of punk music in the late 80's, we have to consider that in this modern era, Emo is now defined as anything overly emotional.
Associated with this are self-mutilation, skintight clothing, piercings, excessive crying, and I could go on for days. There is no exact, bullseye definition for Emo since it is somehow stuck between being a genre of music, which is what it used to be and; a short-cut term for the word "emotional".
But if we talk about now, Emo means emotional. Cutting your wrists, jumping off your window, listening and crying to "emotional" music, drugs, sad relationships, guns, razors, sharp objects, blood, hating, rationality, loving, sex, homosexuality, breaking up, and so much more.
It's kind of nonsense to some, but what can we do? It's there and if you don't like it, you'll just have to wait for it to die out.

It is emo to cut yourself.

An incomprehensibly lame, fag-ass pimple bitch lifestyle pseudo-pretense, embraced by vaguely homosexual or bi or confused boys and distinctly hideous, blemished, chubby girls.
"Hi."
"Hi. Say do you know a good place to buy scarves to wear in summer, stretch jeans, and black hair dye?"
"Yes, Emo Zone on W. 33rd."

Emo:
People have said this to be many different things. Well Im pretty sure you are all wrong...
"Emo" is NOT short for emotional, it is short for Emotive Hardcore. Yes. That is a kind of music. It first came out in the mid 80s and died in the late 90s, what we have today is "scenester".
We do still have what you might call "Emo music" Bright Eyes perfected it, Dashboard murdered it, making really really bad attempts of being an Emo band.
Then there are the kids who think they are emo....
Uhm.... these kids listen to screamo, not emo.
