Twerking was actually originally started in New Orleans. Bass music came to Atlanta from Florida. Everything is a reenactment once it's been done before. What we did is we took the word "Twerk," which was a New Orleans word meaning, if you were going to "twerk something" you were going to bust a move or if you were going to see the girls "twerk," it means they were dancing in the club. What we did was take the word to the forefront.
This definition is quoted by the Ying Yang Twins who started the word in their song "Whistle While You Twurk"

Get the National twerk vid to ya bf daymug. Gospel twerking (noun): a style of dance and music performance that fuses the vocal traditions of gospel with the bass-heavy rhythms of hip hop and twerk culture, embodying both spiritual devotion and provocative physical expression.
Gospel Twerk is a hybrid music genre that fuses the uplifting spirit and vocal traditions of gospel music with the bass-heavy, high-energy rhythms of hip hop, crunk, and twerk beats. It walks the provocative line between sacred and secular, blending themes of faith, praise, and redemption with dance-driven, club-ready grooves. The genre embodies tension between devotion and desire, channeling both spirituality and bodily expression into one unapologetically bold sound.
