It could be symbolic for the phrase "meat puppet" which is a human who mindlessly does things on other's commands, which pete is technically doing as so many young and successful celebrities at the time would fall into drug addictions and hedonism.

it could also refer to something such as an ad that has a bunch of effort put into it and insight just for it to promote some slop at the end
