where I come from

Cliche phrase. Used as preface for one's remarks about the hardships of his or her life, ostensibly to add validity to the point that follows. Essentially any statement beginning with this phrase can be summarized as follows: "I have had a much harder life than you and hence you are in no position to argue with my point that (blah blah blah)."

From Forest Gump. Said to someone who predicted or promised something that never quite showed up, as in the mountains of shrimp Forest prayed for. The implication is that it may show up yet, but you doubt it.

Robert: "You said it was supposed to be sunny today? Where the hell's this god of yours?"

John: "You gotta see this guitar player, man! He's like better than Jimmy Page!"
Tim (forty-five minutes later): "Where the hell's this god of yours?""

Dating someone in your profession. You only do 2 basic things - eat and shit. Shitting's done in the bathroom. If you're eating in the bathroom too, then you'll never leave, just like if you're dating someone in your profession, you'll never escape your job.

Dental Student #1: It's official: I'm dating that girl in our class.
Dental Student #2: Ah man, you're shitting where you're eating. Get out while you can.
