Emo was original short for emotional punk rock.
Emo culture and people
A actual emo describe themselves as shy, emotionally sensitive, but can be happy and fun to hang around just quiet and takes a while for us to warm up. we listens to rock, soft rock, emotional rock, screamo, and a mix of genres with songs based on hardships of life. some will cut but hide it from others, so they won't posted it on their Instagram or Snapchat because they don't care to draw attention and sympathy from other people. people don't understand not all emos will dress in mainly dark colors dye our hair and have it in our faces, have piercings and makeup all over our bodies. Some of us look quite normal just wear dull colors so we don't draw attention to ourselves but are more emotional then most people. if You look closely you may find some of us are your friends and just quiet and more or less socially awkward in conversations.
Fake emos
Fake emos edgy, puts a bad name on us, dress in black all the time does everything to look emo as possible, are looking for attention, will post on everything how much they hate their life and post everytime they cut can be straight up pricks to people even when they're just trying to help. they're emotional unstable not sensitive love to act out making big senses. so please if you are one of these people go to punk or goth or the other alternative cultures

False Stereotypes:
NOT ALL EMO PEOPLE ARE DEPRESSED. There are plenty who are happy with their lives.
NOT ALL EMO PEOPLE SELF-HARM. Self-harm and emo style have nothing to do with eachother. There are preppy people that self-harm, as well as emo people. Self-harm is a serious problem that should not be laughed at or looked upon as wierd or crazy.
NOT ALL EMO PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR ATTENTION. Of course some are. But not all of them. Some preppy people look for attention too.

Referring to or characterising emo and its accompanying subculture. A fan of type of rock music similar to punk but with more complicated arrangements and lyrics dealing with deeper sensitive issues. Emoness refers to someone who is highly sensitive, emotional, and filled with angst. In the phrase "emoness," the suffix "-ness" indicates "condition."

The term "Emo" is used as counterculture; it is an abbreviation of the word "emotional". Emo it's defining not only an attitude, but also a fashion that are coming from emocore (emo music). Emocore is a combination between hardcore and punk music which was very popular in Washington DC in the late 80's. The emo culture continued to develop between '90 and '00, reaching the height of its popularity today. Emo is also a popular type of fashion now a days.
The society thinks emos are failures; they are not strong enough to hide their emotions.
You don't have to be emo to listen to punk/hardcore/post hardcore music.
Also having black hair (natural or dyed) can't label you as an emo (unless you want to). Emo is used as an insult these days to label people with high emotions and/or people who wears black clothes.
Emo is not as bad as the society sees them. Why would people discriminate or judge emos when they have done nothing wrong to the society but all they have done is having their hair painted/naturally black, listening to rock/punk/hardcore music, or wearing black clothes.
People shouldn't be judging anyone just because of what they do or just because of the music they listen to. Everyone has different tastes and no one should be discriminating others just because of those reasons.

Most of the people who call themselves “emo” and attention seek are fakes. A real emo is someone who is very sensitive and overreacts to things.
Emos also either heavily express themselves through music, art, writing and many more things OR like me they hide their emotions and feelings because people judge them and they are shy.
