To respond to a positive statement about one thing with an exaggerated, often absurd accusation of negativity towards an unrelated thing. This reaction often stems from the assumption that the omission of any opinion on the latter inherently implies disapproval or dislike. It originates from the example below about hamburgers and hotdogs:
Person A: "I love hamburgers."
Person B: "WHY DO YOU HATE HOTDOGS?"
Person A: "I love hamburgers."
Person B: "WHY DO YOU HATE HOTDOGS?"
Person A: "I love democrats."
Person B: "WHY DO YOU HATE REPUBLICANS?"
Person A: "Wow, I didn't even say that. I've just been hamburger hotdogged again!"
Person B: "WHY DO YOU HATE REPUBLICANS?"
Person A: "Wow, I didn't even say that. I've just been hamburger hotdogged again!"
