the music usually is very emotional hints the name, the music might also deal with topics that people may connect or relate too.

emo is also represented through fashion, some common pieces that emos might wear is studded belts , black skinny jeans, band tees , converse or vans and lots of band/fandom bracelets and choker necklaces ,etc .

and people that are 'emo' can tend to be emotional or sensitive but not all the time.

The name of the genre is a shortening of Emocore which itself is a shortening of Emotional Hardcore. Emo is often mistakenly conflated with Gothic Rock, Pop Punk, Melodic Hardcore, Alternative Metal, and Shoegaze.
