A friend is what you become when you split yourself in two in response to the famous words “But we can still be friends.” One part of you remains the lover, the secret part with the broken heart. The other part becomes the friend, the visible part, which will accept any conditions in the (probably vain) hope that the departing soulmate might change their mind.

A “Friend” is someone who you can open up to, someone who talks to you frequently and hangs out with you. A Friend is someone who texts you to check on you to see if you’re doing good. If you know someone who isn’t like any of these then they’re considered an acquaintance, not a friend.

Personally I don’t have any friends. I consider them acquaintances. They never text me, want to hang out, and never check up on me.
