Get the Death Metal mug.Subgenre of metal that is mostly characterized by heavier detuned riffing and complex rhythmic compositions diversifying itself outside the blast beat ridden thrash metal predecessors. Vocals changed over from the raspy throaty vocals of thrash to gutteral roars. Early influences include Hellhammer/Celtic Frost and Death (considered one of the first death metal bands). Later death metal bands incorporated detuning from standard tuning (for their guitars and bass guitars) for a heavier sound as well as influences from jazz/fusion for multiple time signature changes, start and stop tempo changes etc.

Once you've listened, and enjoyed what you've heard, there is no stepping down from the grip of the brutality that is called death metal. Death Metal is greatly discriminated against in most situations, but have probably the most talented musicians in the music scene. The lyrics are filled with disturbing thoughts and beliefs, which may not be acceptable to some people. People who live and greatly respect this type of music (including all types of metal) have earned the name metalhead. Go and ask your metal lover at school or work about it and they will give you a nice, informative responce. I hope this helped inform you of this great genre of music. Go out and buy some metal CD's.
