mass-marketed non-conformism

Very similar to conformists or popular culture... but actually a subculture of pop. If sixty kids shop at Hot topic then they are mass-marketed non-coformists. They used to listen to Marilyn before he released "AntiChrist Superstar" so they justify that they are not posers. Next gen version of these kids are know described as Scene.

Choir of 13 angst-ridden kiddies singing in unison:
"one is different but there are a million the same!"
After seeing this specticle one realizes...Holy shite!
All Those kids are practicing mass-marketed non-conformism!

Non-conformist

Anyone who is not swayed by public opinion. They could be the nerdy kids who go to the downtown library or a the religious kid or anyone.
Ironically, there is a sub-set of conformism where people will start wearing all black, get a couple piercings, and start listening to goth music while telling people they are "non-conformists." These people are really, really annoying.

He started listening to Voltaire, he thinks he's such a non-conformist,but he's just following a different crowd.

Reverse Conformist

Someone who conforms by believing that they are not conforming. If someone ever calls themself a nonconformist they are thus a conformist by conforming to a group of noncomforists.
To be a true nonconformist you must do your own thing but be chill about it. Don't have it in your mind that you are a nonconformist, have it in your mind that you are you. Not part of a group, not a nonconformist, just you.

Emo kids who believe that they are nonconformists by not being preps when they are just conforming to the emo mold by believing that and thus becoming a reverse conformist.

conformist

Despite popular belief, we are -not- all conformists. We are however, all influenced by sources other than ourselves. An 'individual' would be a person whom does what he/she wishes to, for reasons that he/she has justified themselves, rather than doing something because someone else deems it as correct, or 'cool', a conformist does the opposite. In short, a conformist gives way too much of a shit about what others think.

Sadly, the polulation has decided to categorise themselves as one thing or another, leading to so many labels, that we just assume that everyone is being a conformist slut, the vast majority of the time.

The whole "Emo" thing is the current conformist favourite, even though the concept is that "Nobody understands me." and "I'm so different.", when everyone undergoes this transformation, being a basketcase is now 'cool'.
I say we don't give them psychological help, and instead leave them to bleed from the wrists, crying, until they die.

Conformist Emo Slut: "Nobody understands me."

Anyone not bound by society's grip: "Please, stop moaning, and instead continue with the whole self-harming thing. You're not bleeding enough."
