1)Middle-class teenagers who only want attention from their parents or their peers who have enough grease in their hair to fry enough bacon for the 10 trillion people in this world. They wear a lot of black and their greasy hair is always covering their face. Most emo kids cut themselves......most of the time for attention, as previously stated....because mommy and daddy "just don't understand".

2)Emo sumed up is goth with no balls(maybe if emos didn't wear castratingly tight jeans they could grow the balls to realize they are being completely ridiculous and that nobody cares.)

3)Posers with bad taste in music.

Emo

Originally short for emotive hardcore, a subgenre of hardcore punk and post hardcore catagorized by more personal, emotional, and confessional lyrics. It is not a shitty subculture of edgy teenagers who are desperately trying to be unique and different, those are just scene kids. No, chances are if you see it on a shirt at Hot Topic, it is not an emo band (Or a screamo band for that matter).

Some examples of emotive hardcore bands are:
Embrace,
Rites of Spring,
Moss Icon,
Indian Summer,
Dag Nasty

Emo more commonly also refers to another genre known as midwest emo, indie emo, or simply just emo. This type of emo is more closely related to indie rock (which is also probably different than what youre thinking).

Examples of indie emo bands
are:
Sunny Day Real Estate,
Cap'n Jazz,
Joan of Arc,
Jimmy Eat World (early),
Mineral

Both of these types of emo often include shouted, screamed, or occasionally sloppy vocals, respectively.

Respectable emo fan: "Moss Icon is a really good and influencial early emo band."

Scene kid: "i luv emo!!!!1 are they like My Chemical Romance??? RAWR XDDD"

Respectable emo fan: "God has abandoned us."

Emo

Emo, short for emotional bitchass, is a person with little to no mental sanity. Emo’s typically don’t make it to the 10th grade, due to either suicide, or are imprisoned for shooting up their local Walmart. Emo’s typically have more cuts than a steakhouse. Emo’s are likely to be “depressed”, and always complain about how bad their middle class family is for not buying them a new pet to torture. Emo’s are also know to masturbate to gore porn, and human suffering. Emo’s like to wear jean jackets with a skull and bones t-shirt, with ripped jeans, so you can see their bleeding wounds from last night. An Emo’s natural habitat is Hot Topic, where they can congregate with fellow psychologically challenged individuals, and talk about who is next on their sacrifice list. If you spot an Emo, run for your life, because they will most likely cast a spell on you if you look at them the wrong way.

Friend 1: Jesse is such an emo.
Friend 2: I know right! I heard he once jacked off in Hot Topic to this old lady who had a heart attack in the middle of the store.
