Though the Firefly 'verse is set 500 years in the future, Selvaggio was reminded of the aesthetics of the 1800s era in the United States where Chinese laborers were used to build the transcontinental railroad east from California. "Little House on the Prairie" was set in the 1870s.

Cosplaying for Firefly is easy, just think Prairiepunk in neutral colors.
