Refers to a plan being ruined. If you have something organised and in some way it is no longer available. Used in south east Scotland, may be used elsewhere, author is unsure.

"It's raining, we can't play golf anymore!"
"Ahh well, that puts play to that idea"

or

"Johhny can't make it? Well that puts play to that then eh!"
