Emo is defined in multiple ways. It isn't just some stupid music of genre, nor is it people who self harm. Emo is a character trait. It's a genre of music. However, some "normal people" listen to it and don't even know it. Emos aren't all mean, and the ones who are have a reason to be. Some are really nice, but like I said it's a character trait. It depends on the person.

Emotionally Angst Teen is told NO, Teen, because his mother wouldn't attentional to her son's emotional problems or father doesn't see why his son won't play sport like kids of his age, Becomes Depressed and create emotional poetry, Emo shares poetry, Others feel sorry, and thus promote this.

Emo can also be a mentality, someone who is in tune with their own emotions, they understand themselves, self harm too but we dont talk about that. One more thing that could make you emo is music taste, for instance, all types of rock and metal genres fit into emo. Some artists that would fit the emo genre would be: Joel Faviere, Get Scared, Black Veil Brides, and so on.
You dont need to fit all the criteria to be Emo, just one is fine, And if you fit some of it and dont want to be called Emo, then thats alright, you do you.
