They assassinated her husband to teach him a lesson, but they forgot to leave his brain intact to make the lesson stick when they shot him in the temple, making the lesson both as pointless and useless as a brain with a bullet lodged in it. Had they shot him in the face, he might have learned at least part of the lesson, and got his picture all over rotten.com in the process.
