I keep seeing pictures of Whitted, with his perfect camera angles and Florida push to make his fish look giant.

John McCain did this in the 2008 Presidential race. His Vice Presidential Pick was an obscure Alaskan Governor who's other main political post was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Whenever she was interviewed away from her handlers, she showed a surprising lack of knowledge about the world.
