Get the beam someonemug. The term "3/16th 8 inch beam" doesn't even have to refer to a beam thats 3/16th of an inch and 8 inches long. It simply refers to the most important part of any type of project.
"Hey John, go get the 3/16th 8 inch beam from the back of the truck" (In this case John is going to go get the most important part of the sink he is installing, the sink drain.)
