Get the hipstermug. Hipsters are a sub-culture of self-conscious image-obsessed middle-class white people who have abandoned independent thinking and place a high value on conformity. If people around them are growing beards, hipsters will do the same. If tattoos and piercings become a trend, hipsters will be the first people to flock to tattoo parlours. Hipsters never have sincere thoughts or action. It may be that hipsters were bullied at school and were not very good at sports, explaining why they rarely smile. They console themselves by examining their bank balance, which is usually very healthy thanks to daddy's trust fund.

Get the Hipstermug. A hipster is a person who expresses unpopular opinions, stating that the popular opinions are too mainstream. Of course, when someone is a hipster, it can be never certain how sincere they are, since, as with all groups, there are posers. In the case of hipsters, a poser is a person who does not actually hold the opinions that they express, and only claim to hold such opinions to try and get attention with the hipsters. A hipster poser will often express opinions that are much more unpopular than an average hipster would. The hipster posers may also be called special snowflakes.
Person 1: Hey dude, don't be sad, about 15% of people who care the issue hold the same opinion as you.
Person 2: What? Why should that make me happy? Do you think I'm a hipster?

Get the Hipstermug. People usually in their late teens or younger stages of adulthood who base their social identity around counter-culture, alternative music, the arts and social justice.
Hipsters are often seen as pretentious due to carrying with them an air of superiority while having achieved little of note personally. They like the idea of academia but contribute nothing much of value in the academic world and they like the idea of a social revolution but are generally unwilling to risk their usually comfortable lifestyles to achieve this.
Hipster identity is usually based around rejection of the mainstream and ironic use of mainstream fashions that have fallen out of style. Certain types of clothing and fashion accessories have actually come back into style as a result of popularisation by hipsters - they fail to see the irony in this.
