The Hartman Defense is, in general, when a person simply proclaims they have no knowledge of anything at all, therefore could not be guilty of anything, ever. Defendant simply raises their voice and shouts "I don't know nothin'". It is brilliant in it's simplicity.
Attorney: Where were you on the night of July 22nd, 2013?
Defendant: I plead The Hartman Defense.
Attorney: Please elaborate.
Defendant: I don't know nothin'!
Judge: (pounds gavel) Case dismissed.
Defendant: I plead The Hartman Defense.

The exercise of self defense from an assailant in a conflict that was unecessarily raised, and predictably could have been entirely avoided. This is largely a consequence of the person exercising 'self defense' not/poorly assessing personal risks, a failure to practice conflict resolution skills, or by provoking the assailant.
John had practiced the Rittenhouse Defense by injuring the enraged female assailant after he kept hurling insults at her.

Used by member's of Britain's right wing Conservative Party as a last resort when they have no valid defense or comeback; especially during Prime Minister's Question Time.
Weak leader Rishi Sunak seems particularly fond of using it despite the argument being largely irrelevant now as Jeremy Corbyn no longer sits as a Labour party member.
Background:
The animosity towards Jeremy Corbyn stems from a successful smear campaign orchestrated by the Conservative party, especially during the 2019 election campaign where it was aided by the UK's overwhelmingly right wing media including the supposedly neutral BBC.
