middle class

Also known as the petty bourgeoisie by Marxist Definitions. Usually working professionals and often take residence in suburbia or greenbelt areas. Generally speaking, their children attend university and do well within the education system, often following in their parents footsteps to maintain some sort of professional job.

However, one must ask oneself how to define class. Perhaps financially or culturally? It has been asserted that you do not need to be restricted to relative material wealth in order to be middle-class. Rather, you can still have middle-class values. If this is true, then one can assume that there is still working-class values thus the statement that there ceased to be a working-class in the 1970's is false. Furthermore, that even if they have two cars and take several holidays a year they are still distinctly working-class. Often it has been asserted that money does not buy you class or status. Certain Neo-Marxists now assert that the working-class are transforming into a "Service Class" for the 'infomation workers'. For example, service class's may work in Supermarkets on checkouts, providing a service for people who are employed in the IT industry.

A stereotypical middle-class family might consist of two parents, married, living in detached house with two cars and a well maintained garden. Their children, both at university. They enjoy dinner parties and have many cook books and dabble in Red Wine probably far to often. This is merely a stereotype though, you'd probably be suprised how many have fairly bizarre patterns of behavior such as Swining or Heroin addiction.

See the films Blue Velvet or American Beauty for accounts of the American middle-class. Alternatively George Orwell wrote exstensively on the class system in Britain in novels such as "Down and Out in London and Paris" and "Road to Wigan Peer".
"Darling, can you please pass me the salt?"

"We're having a dinner party tonight, don't bloody forget the Red Wine again Paul!"

"George, can we jock the gimp suits tonight and get cracking with the cocaine whilst the kids are away?"

Disney Classic

A series of movies and songs made by the Walt Disney Corporation. To make them "classics", they must have been completely hand drawn with no computer animation added to it.

Science class boyfriend

A friendship of convenience where a hot girl will team up with, and pretend to show an interest in a nerdy guy, because she needs his help to pass a tuff class. The girl will give the nerd false hope that there could be something between them, and drop the nerd as soon as she no longer needs him.
That poor guy doesn't realise he's just a science class boyfriend.

classical music

Classical music is music that was (is) written to be played a specific way with specific orchestrations -- be they quartets, full orchestras, solo instruments (piano, organ, guitar), singers or any combination thereof. In its broadest sense it was written from the eras of Bach to Ligeti, but strictly speaking involves the period of Mozart, Haydn and early Beethoven. Forms include symphonies, concert overtures, concertos, operas and many others. I find it odd that when the phrase "Classical Music" is used most people never realize just how multi-faceted and encompassing the genre actually is. (A good many film composers were excellent classical composers in their own right -- B. Herrmann, S. Prokofiev, M. Rosza, J. Williams, just to name a few, and their styles of composition carried over to the screen.) The music from the film Psycho was written in the most strict classical forms, as too was North by Northwest -- their soundtracks play like symphonic tone poems. Most people would probably not realize that a good amount of music they recognize is in fact Classical Music ... composers like Franz List and Rossini quickly come to mind.

So, why do many people poo poo it? Personally, I think it's because so many don't understand or even know much about it ... and that's not meant to be insulting, just an observation. How many can name a composer for every letter of the alphabet? -- Albeniz, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorak ... etc., and then give a work by each? Wow, that's a lot, eh? -- doesn't even scratch the surface! You could listen to days (if not weeks) of music by each one, that's how much there is to explore. And then do the whole alphabet over again with different composers. And then you would be surprised as to how much of that music is incorporated into today's popular music -- and how much of yesterday's popular (folk) music was used by classical composers -- listen to Dvorak's New World Symphony as an example.

There's so much out there it's almost impossible not to like some aspect of it -- and chances are, you already do.
Classical Music that is easily liked ...

F. J. Haydn -- Trumpet Concerto in E flat major.
R. Strauss -- Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks.
I. Stravinsky -- Symphony No. 1.
M. Moszkowski -- Concerto for Piano.
A. Bruckner -- Symphony no. 4 (Romantic)

Son of a Bitch Second Class

Nickname given to the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, an American Carrier-based Dive Bomber of World War II. Earned its nickname form frustrated pilots who found its handling characteristics very undesireable. Despite the fact that the Helldiver was better armed and armored, most U.S Navy dive bomber pilots prefered the Helldiver's predecessor, the Dauntless.

Classic Rock

Classic Rock is undoubtedly one of the greatest genres of music this planet has ever seen. Classic Rock includes:
Cream, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, KISS, New York Dolls, Aerosmith, Queen, Sammy Hagar, Montrose and Ted Nugent. It does not- I repeat- does NOT include Mötley Crüe, Guns N' Roses or Metallica as some of these ass holes seem to think.
Stupid fuck: Dude, stop listening to that shit and listen to some Classic Rock like Metallica!
(I, then, beat SF's face in with a Queen record)
Me: No, dipshit, THAT'S classic rock.
