Linka

Linka is a derogatory Australian term for someone who receives welfare payments. The word comes from “Centrelink,” the government agency that distributes these payments. It originated in Melbourne’s western suburbs in the late 2010s to insult people seen as sponging off the system.

Mike: Hey man, wanna hang out in an hour?
Nathan: Nah can't man, I need to go to Centrelink to sort out my job seeker payment.
Mike: Fuck man, get a job ya Linka.
