A sarcastic and rather frustrated way of saying "Thank you" to someone, or something in a situation which did not work in your favour at all. Similar to saying "Thanks for nothing" .
"I was left a couple of hundred pounds out of pocket after Mr Bloggs informed me he couldn't come up with the money in time! Cheers then."
"I bent over backwards to get my shift changed so I could meet up with her on Friday night, only for her to tell me the plan had changed. Cheers then!!"
"My phone's decided to die on me even though I had 23% battery power, and I'm nowhere near my house. Cheers then!!"

A word that is used by people who are (apperiantly) too cool to simply say "thanks", "thank you", or any other means of expression of gratitude that leaves them sounding like anything other than a contrived tool.
Thing 1. "Here you go man, here are the links you asked for"
Thing 2. "Oh thanks man! Cheers!"
Thing 1. No problem, it was my ple......wait a minute did you just say "Thanks" and "Cheers"? First of all you don't say 'cheers' if you already said 'thanks'. And second of all why the hell are you using the word 'cheers'? You were raised in Arkansas. (Tool)
