A term used by those who fantasise obsessively over the fictional characters Sherlock and John from the BBC show, writing and reading erotic homosexual fanfiction and fan art, and threatening to commit suicide if the fictional characters don't end up having sex by a certain episode. Often the term is used by teenagers who can't cope with their emotions, their newfound sexuality, and becoming a sane and responsible adult.
Also likely to enter a relationship and threaten to kill themselves if the other half leaves them.

A new and different type of queerbaiting that arose with the creation of canon f/f ships in which the pairing is overly hyped by the crew/media, is said to play a big part in the story, thus baiting queer people into being attached to the show, and ends up being sidelined (often to favour a new straight couple).

Get the neo queerbaitingmug. Contrary to popular use today, originally in the 1960's this was a teenage boy that would be used to lure gay men into situations where they would be beaten and robbed.
Often a group of young men would go to a location known for gay men having anonymous sexual encounters and hide. They would then send out an attractive teenage boy to be approached by gay men. He would in turn lure the man into a remote location where the group would be waiting. Once they were there the group would beat and rob the gay man.
They didn't fear legal repercussions because at the time the men would be jailed for homosexual activities so they often wouldn't report the incident.
