In ancient greek times, it was the Venus symbol, which represented the feminine part of a person.
From the 1950s to the late 1980s (I'm not so sure about the dates), it was regarded as a symbol of Satanism or anti-Christianity.
From the late 1980s to present times, it was and is regarded as a symbol of evil, anti-humanity, or spiritualism, but not Satanism or anti-Christianity. If it is regarded as Satanic, it is usually because it contains a Satanic cross or a goat's head (some also say it is the head of Baphomet, a satyr-ish figure with a goat's head often misinterpereted as Satan, but actually it is just a French interpretation of Mohammed).

Get the pentagram mug.A pentagram is simply a pentacle but drawn with energy. It's not physical like a pentacle is, and sometimes it is without a circle around it. It isn't the inverted Satanist star...I don't know where you people got that from.
