A female character in drama or literature. She is a sweet, pretty, if somewhat naive, young woman. To our modern eyes, she's often seen as this meek little mouse.

The ingenue is played by a light soprano in opera or musicals.

Judy Garland's protrayal of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz is the epitome of an ingenue.

not yet an actual word. incorrectly used when trying to describe something that is the opposite of "genuine." usually confused with "Ingenuous" which means "gullible" and "ingenuity" which means "inventive originality". it is best to use the word "DISINGENUOUS" when you are vying for the antonym of "genuine".

inging

The process of adding the suffix "ing" to a word (noun, adjective, verb, etc.) to make it into a verb in present continuous tense.

Prescriptivists don't enjoy the inging of nouns such as facebook into verbs such as facebooking. It drives them nuts.
