the old days

The days you're never going to have back.

The days you can look back on and think, "i miss it so much." or, "what was i thinking? i'm glad it's not like that anymore."

When most people talk about the old days, they discuss good memories with old friends. Sometimes, this topic can become very emotional and sometimes awkward (depending on the topic).

The old days are the days that are gone and done for. They won't come back. You could try, but nothing is or ever will be exactly the same as things were in the past. Even if they come very close. But the past is the past because it's over with. And there's nothing you can do about it, no matter how hard you try.

Person #1: Remember when you me and john used to hang out every weekend and watch movies and play guitar and play trivial pursuit?

Person #2: Oh yeah, god, i miss the old days.

Person #1: Remember when Mark pushed you down the stairs?

Person #2: Uh, let's not talk about the old days..

The Old Stinkeroo

A move made famous in the movie Dumb and Dumber To. Harry and Lloyd attend a party at a science convention. They do not realize the drinks are free, so they walk around taking half-consumed beverages and combine them into a glass as a full drink. They stick their hands into their nasty assholes and then swipe their ass juice around the rims of their glasses. They then proceed to tell a convention worker that the beverages are bad and they have her smell and inhale their ass stank to get new, fresh drinks. They refer to this action as The Old Stinkeroo.

Harry and Lloyd are so dumb they performed The Old Stinkeroo when the drinks were free any way.

The Old Smoke

Through the 19th and in the early half of the 20th century, Londoners used coal for heating their homes, which produced large amounts of smoke. In combination with climatic conditions this often caused a characteristic smog, and London became known for its typical "London Fog", also known as "Pea Soupers". London was sometimes referred to as "The Smoke" because of this. In 1952 this culminated in the disastrous Great Smog of 1952 which lasted for five days and killed over 4,000 people. In response to this, the Clean Air Act 1956 was passed, mandating the creating of "smokeless zones" where the use of "smokeless" fuels was required (this was at a time when most households still used open fires); the Act was effective, though the nickname is still used sarcastically. Many cities have since aquired the nickname "The Smoke", but London was the first, hence "The Old Smoke".
