bit

An unspecified short amount of time (usually less than an hour).

Can be used to indicate that events will follow a normal timescale, or otherwise be used to postpone an event for a time.

A 'bit' usually refers to the expected or average amount of time that should be taken to complete the task in question.
When postponing an event, however, a 'bit' can be considerably longer.

Eg, If you are due to visit a friend who lives a 15 minute drive away, to be round 'in a bit' could indicate that you will be there in about 1/2 hour, 15 minutes preparation to leave and 15 minutes driving.

The expression 'in a bit' is often used in Midland dialect as a farewell, similar to laters.

'A bit' should not however be confused with 'Quite a bit', which always indicates an unusually large amount of time (or something else), and is analogous to a 'while'.

Bit

A Bit is when someone posts on Message Boards/Forums (i.e. KFAN's rube chat, ESPN forums, Megadeth Forums) as someone other than themselves. They can sign in as rock stars, super heroes, famous local sports columnists, dead celebrities, politicians, a made-up person, or even another actual posters name with a slight difference in their username's spelling (with all of their stuff copied and pasted in the signature and the like fields) to mimick them. These bits are created for the soul purpose of humor, but sometimes can be overwheliming, repetitive. trolling, and insulting. The best thing for users who have bits to do is to post them in moderation.
1.) You can tell that "Average Packer Fan" is "Steve from Minneapolis's" bit because of how "Average Packer Fan" misspells words, talks about being drunk all the time, sniffing paint thinner, and loving cousins, is exacty how he stereotypes people from Wisconsin.

2.) Who created an account under the username "Cookie Monster" who always talks about being in love with Snuffleupagus? That bit is so lame!

3.) I didn't post that! Look at the username, he is "GeorgiaGay" not "GeorgiaGuy"! Obviously this bit was created by someone who wants to make me look stupid.

4.) Optimus Prime bit: "AUTOBOTS: ROLL OUT!"

5.) If the Urban Didionary editors to not post this, they are obvious bits!! No REAL PERSON can be this STUCK UP!!!
