If you think the Olympic big top is a joke, the illusion that the Olympic games are serious and meant to be taken seriously might be lost. Then they might have to rescript the whole thing, that's no fun.

Olympic judges

It's interesting how the judges seem to focus more on the mistakes an athlete makes even if the athlete has done a routine like nobody else, something that is theirs, something that is them. That's one of the worst things about the Olympics, there is really no such thing as better or worse routine, and yet they have an entire international event dedicated to grading which routine was better or worse, and that's what athletes are taught, they have to get a certain score. It's like grading what food is better or worse, some people like pizza and hate Chinese food and some people like Chinese food and hate pizza, the whole thing gets silly.

Olympic judges seem like the worst kind of people, instead of the Olympic games being the games that they are, people get the impression that all this stuff is the most serious thing in the world if they listen too closely to the judges.

Why does it matter whether someone is a conservative tennis player or a liberal soccer player if they are trying to win a medal and not a vote?

Olympics

Thank god they are over, people watching/playing sports will now have about 2 weeks of no major sporting events/competitions, and they will get to actually enjoy summer for being summer. For the people watching/playing the NBA Finals past mid July with the Olympics starting the same week, it really was getting silly. The NBA Finals ended over a month before that just a few years ago, and they never needed to go further than mid June. It was nice to have a full summer of no major sporting events/finals/playoffs, just casual regular season baseball games.

It didn't help the Olympics that they came right after the NBA Finals. People like to get a little summer in to enjoy it without thinking about what sporting event/competition is next, since that starts to get silly at a certain point. Not everybody wants a summer filled with competition after competition, it gets dull and silly at the same time.

olympic street swimmer

People that are clearly on a good one, possibly haven't slept in a long while. They look as if they are doing the back stroke, while walking/speed walking, no water involved. They have a serious look on their face, they seem to be determined to get wherever they are going and nothing can do them, until that moment that comes out of no where, when all that arm flailing of the back stroke, takes on a life all it's own, and they abruptly stop walking and break it into a sort of freestyle Noodle Grove. (They are as caught off guard as the onlooker. )
All though it is not yet an official Olympic sport, it has not deterred this small group of people nation wide, from training. As soon as a proper scoring system has been decided upon, for example; degree of difficulty, transition from Street Swimming into the free style Noodle Grooving, over all execution, we will have to wait for it to be brought to the world at large. Right now there are too many variables to be judged and scored accurately.

I was driving down the main street on my way to the store, when my kids spotted an Olympic Street Swimmer, when we at the stop light. My oldest said, "wow that guy looks like a cat with tape on it's feet!", Her sister said," NO! That's an Olympic Street Swimmer! Wait for it ...." We couldn't look away. Then all of a sudden, he stopped and did a rendition of a break dance move none of us had seen before, and he looked like he was trying to chew on his shoulder. The girls grabbed some paper and a sharpie and both held up their score cards. One gave an 8.3 and the other an 8.5. they applauded and the light turned green, we talked about this all the way through the store and all the way back home we looked for others in training.
