This is something poor/uneducated American whites say to let someone know that they’ve expressed an opinion that the poor/uneducated American white person doesn’t like or that goes against the collective opinion of the poor/uneducated group of whites. This is an attempt to shut down the conversation or marginalize the other person. Whether or not the statement actually comes from ignorance is irrelevant. Usually, the person calling another out for “being ignorant” is themselves ignorant in the true sense of the word.
