"Foundational Latino American" (noun)
A group of American people who proudly trace their ancestry to Latin American settlers or immigrants, as well as the ancient civilizations and empires that shaped them. Foundational Latino Americans (FLA) are not only connected to the Amerindians who have called North America home for thousands of years but also carry the legacy of the Roman Empire through their Spanish roots. Essentially, they’ve got the bloodlines of both the builders of pyramids and aqueducts running through their veins.
The term FLA started as a way to distinguish those with deep cultural and familial roots in the U.S., blending the resilience of their Amerindian ancestors and the global influence of their European lineage. To be an FLA, you must check your family history for ancestors who were either farming maize before the pilgrims showed up or bringing Latin culture to North America long before Taco Bell got it twisted.
This group thrives on traditions passed down from generations, from Aztec and Incan-inspired craftsmanship to fiesta-worthy celebrations straight out of a Roman feast. Their influence isn’t just foundational—it’s civilizational.
