Platonic means that even if I want to, we better not if we wanna stay platonic or friends period.
it could also mean, I am gay and you are not the same sex, so you don't have a chance in hell

Now that is a platonic relationship between the opposite sex that is never in jeopardy due to possible sexual desires

Platonic is a type of love, or close relationship, that is non-romantic. It is named after Greek Plato, Platonic love as devised by Plato concerns rising through levels of closeness to wisdom and true beauty from attraction to individual bodies to attraction to souls, and eventually, union with the truth.

Harry/Hermione shipper: OMG HARRY AND HERMIONE ARE SO MEANT TO BE!!! NOT THAT IDIOT RON AND THAT OBSESSIVE SLUT GINNY!!!
Me: Oh my god, stop being so delusional. Harry and Hermione's love for each other is entirely platonic, and if you read the books, you would see that Harry and Ginny as well as Ron and Hermione are meant to be.

Being platonic means having someone who loves you for who you are without complicating it with sex.
It's an interdependent relationship and usually lasts decades if done correctly.
There is no expectation, no jealousy.

My best platonic friend always told me I would see the pattern more clearly as time went. I'll always love him for his insight.
