Malaise Era

The period from 1972 to 1996 (some would even say it ran all the way to 2008) where American car companies were making cars that were just awful. At first it was simply because the feds had enacted strict emissions regulations thanks to skyrocketing oil prices, but after those were lifted in 1983 the problem was simply lazy design and shittacular build quality.

People wonder why Japan and Germany took over the car market, well, just look at the shitboxes we were putting out during the malaise era and there's your answer.
