A girl gifted with natural beauty. She quickly learns that her beauty makes it easy for her to get what she wants. She is popular and can attract the most desirable mates. She is often treated as special because of her looks, given special treatment and
consideration in many areas. She eventually comes to the conclusion that she is special and deserves what she gets. Eventually, she finds a handsome, wealthy and powerful man that is "deserving" of her beauty. However,
over time, her beauty fades. She finds that life becomes more difficult. She doesn't automatically get the things she wants. She finds that her handsome, rich and powerful husband, who has only gotten more attractive with age is
sleeping with his secretary or some other
beautiful woman that has the beauty she once had. This leads to divorce and the realization that she has no redeeming qualities now that her beauty has faded. Never having needed to work on developing herself as a person, she finds herself unable to cope in a world where she is no longer special based on her looks. Bitterness, depression, substance abuse and sometimes suicide results. This is pretty girl syndrome.
"Since her divorce, Jane has been drinking heavily, partying and
sleeping with anyone that will pay attention to her. She is also struggling with depression. I can't believe it. She was so beautiful and had
everything. Now she is a train wreck."
"Jane has pretty girl syndrome.
That's what happens."
