A fourth wall character is a character that serves a specific purpose. By its very nature it is aware that it is a character, to some degree, and thus is not confined by the rules that usually confine them. They tend to use things like out of character knowledge and some degree of immortality as a part of their duties.

They will often lose their grasp of the fictional world they live in as they become obsessed with the fourth wall. Other side effects can include but are not limited to, lashing out at the audience, losing awareness of their own fictional world, stress, emotional distress, Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, etc.
This character, suffering from Fourth-Wall Syndrome, despised his creator, blaming her for every bad thing that ever happened to him.
