The largest and most diverse city in America. With a population over 8 million, and a reputation for blunt honesty, graft and aggression, New York City is actually one of America's friendliest places, with a proud citizen base committed to cooperation. An excellent example is
September 11th, 2001, when New Yorkers of all backgrounds
automatically pulled together to rescue the injured, rebuild infrastructure, and provide America backbone to withstand the event.
New York City is the most talked-about, thought-about, and most-written and sung about city in the world. New songs, movies, television programs and plays are created about it daily. Moving to, surviving, then living well in New York City is nearly universally seen as "having arrived".
New Yorkers are brash,
impulsive, good-natured and approachable. They like meeting people and are not shy about making new friends.
Friendships can be struck up in public (i.e. on line for a bus, or at a bank) when two or more unrelated New Yorkers notice something unusual and make a (usually sarcastic) comment to one another.
