configuration masochism

Within the field of Information Technology, the act of implementing, possibly but not necessarily, good practice configurations without any business value just for the sake of using the available functionality and thereby creating the feeling of self satisfaction which has as the consequence that other involved parties are hindered in performing their day to day operations which invokes great frustration for said parties.

An architect suffering of configuration masochism designs the configuration of a totally private cloud instance in such a way that for each department in the company a small "firewalled" subnet is created while discarding the fact that in the end all services implemented by each department within their respective network segments have to communicate to each other in a non predictable way. Because of that an endless set of firewall and routing rules have to be created to make communication between these services possible which defeats the purpose of having firewalled network segments in the first place.

Machismo

Hispanic-Mexican slang - The word machismo ultimately boils down to a man who is beating his chest behaving as brash and arrogant as possible while really coming off as a cocky jerk of limited manners. This kind of man is not revered by women with a high IQ. It can be used as an indirect way to delivery a back-handed complement (double meaning) to a self absorbed man-boy who doesn't understand the current accepted meaning of the word (jerk) and doesn't want to believe he is not a nice guy, but is really just a jerk.

1. The supervisor's demeaning rudeness was unbelievable. After he left the office, one of the girls stupidly tried to defend him by saying that's just his machismo talking - he didn't mean it.

2. "Wow, He thinks machismo is a complement - but he doesn't understand that it means he's a jerk."

sado-masochism

A faction of the BDSM lifestyle shared by many people globally. It is named for both Marquis de Sade (120 Days of Sodom) of noble French birth and also for Leopold van Sacher Masoch (Venus in Furs). Both writers represent the two extremes of the spectrum. Sade represents male dominance, while Masoch represents male subservience. Hence the word we use today is a combination of the two.

Since his teen years he had been reading fictional tales of sado-masochism, and now he finally got the courage to indulge his fantasies. He stepped into the dungeon, dropped to his knees, and beheld his new Mistress. Tonight he would become powerless.

Machisme

Chicago area Chicano slang. Roughly translated into English, it means "locker room talk." It's a combination of "machismo" which means "a strong or exaggerated sense of masculinity" and "chisme" which means "gossip."

It can also mean "male bonding."

I overheard some machisme about ole girl yesterday. She's a real freak!!

Let's meet up this weekend for a few beers and some "machisme."
