I was feeling depressed, so I called my friend to cheer me up… I realized, by venting… my friend started to gain negative emotions.
(Could be to “stand up” for the other person, but could also be triggering for the person you’re venting to… so they start to think on all the negativity that has surrounded them, most recently… Stuff that doesn’t even pertain to the circumstance/situation that you’re trying to express)
