The Chicago Delusion

The Chicago Delusion is the belief that for every experience or interaction to be had in Grand Rapids there is a superior analog in Chicago. It is a way for Grand Rapids residents to withdraw into a fantasy world where everything is different but in such a way that they aren’t challenged to learn a new language, food, culture, or way of life. Those who succumb to the Chicago Delusion foreclose on their social capital in Grand Rapids long before they move away, if they succeed in doing so.
