This Victorian phrase means 'don't lie to me'. In the 1800's, it was common for dog salespeople to try to pass mutts off as pedigrees. This is supposedly the origin of the phrase (which was popular until the 1870's).
“You think I'd believe that you're a wizard who's also the cousin of royalty and Bill Gates' twin brother? Don't sell me a dog.”

Get the Don't Sell Me a Dog mug. When your dealer bestows upon you, out of the goodness of his heart, a free bag of better/more expensive product that makes what you usually get from him now seem like a bag of crappy-ass shit. Of course he would deny trying to Up-Sell, but is hoping to turn your usual $100 order into a $200 order, having shown you what you are missing. He might also step up the game by making sure your $100 bag now goes down in quality each time you buy, just enough to be noticed by you but not seem obviously intentional by him.

Get the co-sell mug. When creepy people at your public library come in and take CDs, download them onto their computer, and leave the CDs on the table, walking away with the music on their computer, ready to sell.
The old man came to the library on Saturday afternoon with his personal computer. He downloaded eight CDs and left, leaving the CDs on the table. Clearly a Rip and Sell kind of guy.
