Cracker

Derogatory term (when used by outsiders) for "poor, white trash" in the southeastern U.S. particularly Georgia and northern Florida. Some say the term is derived from the crack of their whips when driving cattle. Others claim it is shortened from "corn-cracker." Still others believe it is from the verb "crack" as in "boast" (not what it's cracked up to be).

Cracker

There's a lot of black kids who call all white people crackers based on skin color. There are a lot of different groups of white people, just like there are different ethnic groups of brown skinned folks. Black people were fighting some groups for jobs in the cities. Polish people weren't cracking whips back in those days, Irish and Germans didn't come home from work to a house full of slaves. Italians and Russians weren't likely to keep slaves to increase mob productivity. Since when were all white people crackers even in the south? Many couldn't afford to keep slaves, and there were black soldiers in the confederate army. Calling any white person you see a cracker isn't opening doors to a more tolerant world, where did this bullshit come from?
Hollering cracker at some white guy walking while you're with your three friends as you floor it down the road isn't gonna make the past any more wonderful over some shit that was between you and a family who owned a plantation. You can get out of your car and let some guy know how you feel if there really is something you don't like about him.

cracker

Cracker, is a term of contempt for the "poor" or "mean whites," particularly of Georgia and Florida. The term dates back to the American Revolution, and is derived from the "cracked corn" which formed their staple food.

cracker

Crackers were poor white folk who lived in the south during the antebellum era. Given their name because of their staple diet of crack-corn, crackers were often hired by plantation owners in order to replace a slave in dangerous jobs. The high prices of slaves during the 1830s and 40s made It efficient to use a cracker rather than a slave. If a planter lost or injured a slave he would be pressed to buy another slave, but if the cracker got injured or died, finacially, the planter would have been unaffected. Crackers had a very low standard of living. Many of them lived in forests and dug holes in the ground to live in. despite their living conditions and their social status, crackers stilled believed they were better than the african slaves. Today, cracker is often used as a derogatory term for a white person for obvious reasons. It implies a person who lives in the utmost worst conditions and a person who no one really cares about.
