When teens that live in small towns often get drunk, high, ect. due to boredom. It can also be seen as the average age for such activities being much lower in said town.

When you are with people who are doing something, even when you arent doing it, you feel the same effect. It works depending on if you mentally believe in it or not.
Since I'm straight edge, when my friends drink, i use the placebo effect and feel the same as they do.

Thus, over time these social information systems tend to be statistically more accurate than similar systems published by a closed source, such as a small number of editors.
While Bob's Game Maps are pretty good, the GameMap Wiki tends to have better, more timely information. Because of the Wikipedia Effect, the GameMap Wiki gets new updates to game worlds near real-time, whereas Bob takes several weeks to get his updates done.
